Is It Possible to Repolish Old or Inherited Gemstones?

It is not unusual for old or inherited jewellery to be showing signs of wear and damage. But just imagine what those pieces of jewellery have seen. The stories they could share! Signs of wear on old and inherited jewellery are proof that the jewellery has been loved, adored and in a lot of cases, worn for a lifetime.

The problem is that sometimes, old gemstones are so worn and damaged, that they can negatively impact upon the beauty and sparkle of your completed Legacy piece.

But, fear not. In many cases, it may be possible to gently and sympathetically polish out surface scratches and damage so that the sparkle and brilliance in your gemstones are re-born.

It is not always advisable or possible to repolish gemstones, factors that impact success include the extent of the damage, where any damage is, and whether the work makes financial sense. We will be able to advise once we see your gemstones and assess the damage or wear and tear.

The good news is that more often than not, repolishing does have a fabulous effect and is very worth the extra TLC. Gemstones we have recently successfully repolished include beautiful deep emeralds, stunning rubies and a range of different coloured tourmalines.

If we feel that your gemstones could do with a little extra TLC we may advise that they are professionally polished prior to them being set in their new Legacy design. This should not delay the creation of your Legacy piece, and in most cases it will breathe new life into old gemstones, adding sparkle and brightness.

If your gemstones require re-polishing, then this will be discussed with you and your approval received before any work is undertaken.
